Parliament debates the geopolitical and economic implications of the new Trump administration for relations between the EU and the US.

The day after Donald Trump’s inauguration on 20 January, MEPs are set to discuss the implications of his second term for transatlantic relations, with representatives from the Polish Council presidency and the European Commission. The debate is expected to focus on support for Ukraine, relations with Russia, China, the Middle East, climate change, and trade.

The debate is also expected to bring up security issues, in light of Trump’s repeated demands that Europe spends more on defence. Recently speaking in Parliament’s foreign affairs committee, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte warned that “NATO’s current two percent defence spending target is not nearly enough (…) to stay safe.” Check his full intervention here:

  1. Trump lines up the world's richest men behind him at his inauguration and yet somehow we have some idiotic MEPs claiming he's fighting against the elites. How people this stupid gain employment as legislators needs to be studied.

  2. Trump has threatened to invade Greenland (an EU OCT), annex Canada, imposed tariffs, repeatedly insulted Zelensky, and appeased Putin.

Trump is the enemy of Europe and the enemy of Freedom.

  3. In five years, Russia will be ready to launch a large-scale war in Europe that the U.S. won't intervene in… Trump said before becoming president that he believes European NATO members should spend 5% of their GDP on defense

  4. We would like to hear actionable proposals and more emphasis on immigration-border security agenda. Greece has been bearing this burden for too long. This is an EU and global issue and requires strong leadership and actionable, measurable solutions

  5. I want to see EU doing something for us the people. The way I see it EU is threat to democracy. We are going into a communist-democracy, censorship on internet, if you protect yourself from islamic illegals you go to jail, what is this 1984? Totaltiarian states. This needs to change!

  6. The Eu has for too long leaned on the US, and I'm happy to hear that the general consensus is that we're no longer going to entertain their worst behaviours for the sake of "friendship"

  7. What happens after these debates? How is it translated into action? Also, why did none of those talking about the economy and security of our EU not mention our migration/open borders crisis.

  8. WAKE UP ❗❗❗EU 💥
Trump doesn't care about you. He will care if you fill his pockets with money $$$$. Prepare yourselves. Pull your heads out of the snow.
Trump is cutting you off, he's cutting money flow from America to you. Wake UP ❗❗❗❌

  9. Europe is on the verge of bankruptcy it is filled with debt, it has no innovation, unemployment is at its max and no one wants to even work. All they want is money from the government. China is in the cutting edge of AI technology, it has billions of people who work like dogs, their education is top notch. If this were strictly a business decision, hands 🙌 down I would do away with Europe and partner with China and Russia. Russia simply for geopolitical power and China for business and innovation. I would not be enemies with Europe I just would have no need to trade with them. I have to say besides visiting old castle relics and eating pizza, Europe is relatively useless.

  10. America is taking care of America First! We have high poverty and a lot of problems in our country. Money should be spent in America. EU should take care of their countries and their people.

  11. Who ever 208 is Bravo to hm. Trump would never want to see the EU fail, the EU can be great too. New innovative people in EU government would bring about positive change. Expecting the people who created the problems be responsible for correcting the problems in the first place might not be the right way to go or grow. Stifling free speech stifles new innovation and ideas. Illegal immigration is a threat to every nation

  12. Immigration is hurting so many nations while their citizens suffer the consequences. Get woke, go broke. You can’t run a country off of wind turbines alone. If you don’t have adequate power infrastructure then you can manufacture goods or provide services. It’s sad that the same people that created the crisis are still there thinking they can resolve it. To use AI in businesses it takes massive amounts of energy.

  13. 🤣🤣🤣 EU = barren lands with no resources, only coal. Genocidal colonizers have no colonies left to plunder & prop-up their societies, instead they have been colonized by the US. How long before they go back to fighting each other?

  14. 36:07 idk who number 208 is but I love his disagreement. America should and will put America first and the EU should do the same with each individual country within them. Focusing on ideologies gets you nowhere, and it's a waste of time. You can't be upset about your country gaining strength. Let's go Trump 2025 🎉

  15. Germany and France and other European nations have to stop allowing US citizens to study at their universities, which are better and greater than American universities. They must charge US citizens just as much or more than US Universities charge German or French students!!! Who on earth ever allowed that to go on? There are hundreds of thousands of criminal US citizens sending their possibly criminal children to European schools for free, and their entire families are thereby easily taking advantage of Europe!…that's total insanity!!! No European leader of the (Holy) Roman Empire would have ever permitted this! They're rolling over in their graves.

  16. Donald Trump is, in a way, the most spoiled and narcissistic child of European nations. Countless German and Celtic immigrants have left Europe, settled in the USA and then proceeded to raise on the one hand extremely spoiled children, or on the other, extremely abused children. Both phenomena are common here, especially in the combination of German-Irish or Scottish descent. You don't find many, if any, Native American Indians who act like Trump.

  17. Donald Trump really needs to give up his DNA…after all, it's been produced, repaired, reproduced and maintained carefully in the European countries of Germany and Scotland for over 1000 years. In America, it would already be bastardized after 100 years. He really should get a DNA transplant and exchange it for some Chinese, African, Russian, Native American, or whatever other DNA he deems expedient.

  18. Trump and his vassal Musk are not to be trusted. Europe must stand strong on its own two feet and severely condemn and sanction the Nazi practices of the Trump administration.

  19. But the thing was Alaska is belongs to Russian but American buy from them,no one make a noise… WHY land not green suddenly make lots of noise…come on…if selling someone will buy it….X…
