Eleanor Bron wow.
"Now don't worry your pretty little head…."
"Emotional damage!!"
Well that just got more relevant.
👍💯😅😂
To be fair, it would be unseemly for an unelected official to take credit for a democratic government’s success story.
Charmin actress.
The lady just summed up my job for the last 20 years.😔
Achievement rather than activity – Sir Humphrey left the chat
Should have continued for a minute more. Her comments became even more satirically scathing.
Shit this is so true.
I cannot determine if this is a comedy or a frighteningly accurate historical documentary.
Having worked in local government, this is true everywhere 🤦♂️
Eleanor Bron – the woman whom The Beatles wrote the song ‘Eleanor Rigby’ about……she is the 60’s.
Sounds familiar 😁
Feel a wee bit sorry for Hacker here. He fought so hard to be able to offer her the promotion and then she burns him viciously. (Although her main target is Sir Humphrey.)
"You are surely not saying that the government of Britain is unimportant?"
– "No, it's very important. It's just that I haven't met anyone who's doing it."
The writers showing off here, with a very rare use of "government", not as the word describing the community of ministers, MP's and people working the instutions, but as the word describing the act of Britain being governed. Nowadays we would sometimes rather call it "the governing of Britain".
Eleanor Bron is such a classy actor
It should be “governing”, not “government.”
The scene leaves out the nastier part of the goodbye. Jim's intentions are good, but he's not as different as he thinks he is from the patronizing jerks he's trying to change, and she calls him out on it. Also, that part of her speech where she explains that she wants achievement she can point to mirrors what Jim said earlier in the episode, only he had to compromise while she gets to reach what she strives for. This is an episode that really takes a bite out of its characters.
Could say the same about school projects.
gummint IS, very, very unimportant and useless: politicians won't kill criminals and can't win wars…..
As a civil servant, Yes Minister is still compulsory viewing
I’m American and since the British lost their entire empire I can’t tell if she’s being serious or not
This was written in 1980s.
Wow.
Eleanor Bron – hot and intelligent. You can see why John Lennon was smitten
Not sure what's funnier, that this is so true of a lot of public service or that it perpetuates the myth that this doesn't happen in private industry as well…
👌👌👌👌👌👌😂😂😂😂😂😀🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Ever see Eleanor Bron in "Quartermaine's Terms"? Amazing actress.
She is Eleanor Rigby.
My, my, what a beautiful woman. I suspect Eleanor was born when the constellation of Libra was on the horizon of the earth.
More true now than ever !
Truly the British euphemism is so sexy on their women.
Eve leave the Apple alone please
I don't think Yes, Prime Minister will ever age.
As relevant today as the day it was written.
