LIVE | Donald Trump & Putin Meet: Ukraine War To End? | California Fires | Vantage with Palki Sharma

US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that plans are underway for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. With Trump’s return to the White House on January 20,  some anticipate a diplomatic resolution to end to the Russia-Ukraine war, which began in 2022, while others in Kyiv fear that a swift peace deal could come at a high cost for Ukraine. Reports suggest that the two leaders had a phone conversation in mid-November, shortly after Trump won the election. However, neither side confirmed this, with the Kremlin outright denying the reports. Trump on Thursday said, “President Putin wants to meet. He has even said so publicly, and we need to get that war over with. It’s a bloody mess,” Trump said, referring to the Russia-Ukraine war.” Since 2022, the United States, under President Joe Biden, has provided Ukraine with over $175 billion in aid, including more than $60 billion in security assistance. However, it remains uncertain if this level of support will continue under Trump, who has expressed a desire to end the war quickly. Meanwhile, Ukraine launched a new offensive in the Kursk region of western Russia, an area they occupied briefly last year and now hope to use as leverage in negotiations. Kyiv is also intensifying attacks in the eastern region. In response, Russia claims to have launched a missile attack on Donetsk. For Trump’s upcoming meeting with Putin, will Ukrainian President Zelensky receive an invite? How will Europe react? On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma explores these critical questions.

  1. Evidently Donald Trump does not acknowledge or recognize Ukraine's democracy nor its current territorial integrity. If he did, he would have told Putin, "Your invasion is illegal, get out of Ukraine". Actions speak more than words and so far, all I have seen is 'Lips inaction'!

  2. Let me warm you just in case you didn't know, Joe Biden, 29 years old.The youngest congressperson that was signed into congress, Vice president 48 years head of a lot of committees president, for years, His record speaks for itself.See what Donald Trump was doing at that time.Yes, I said it from the United States. He was with hugh hefner harry weinstein jeffrey einstein, Full true documentaries are on slice Full documentary, Front lines It's been his character from his whole time.Google old documentaries to get the real truth It's my opinion But U s a citizen and that's a fact

  3. I notice how you report the news really. How like you're making fun of starting stuff with bite up between In a negative way , but not saying it like that , like how donald trump, It's the one who's gonna get the hostages out.He had nothing to do , It's like how you report things about the United States. That's why all the of a country's hate do you United States so much but they wanna bleed up here because we're the number one state I'm a call to how it is. Which is my opinion, but I gotta get back on the United States cause I got Dave and you do need to get it together they do. But you can see what's going on with Matt too, because we are the United States. My opinion have a nice day

  4. How is it that the country with the highest population on the planet feels like it has to push its employees to work 6 days and 90 hours? Can’t they just hire some weekend only people? Then your company will work 7 days a week without over working your employees. Japan is over working it’s population due do a lack of people so even though it’s not advisable, it’s at least understandable.

  5. 90 hours a week is not impossible. American truckers work that much pretty much every week. Do we get to go home after work each day? No. Our bed is right behind our drivers seat. We literally live and sleep at our job. Most trucking companies give u 1 day home for every week and a half of work. So u work for a month and go home for 3 days. That’s less than 1 day per week. Most of us get paid well for this sacrifice but not all. All of us volunteer for this job but even though we routinely work far more than most Americans. We are not forced to work these insane hours. We know we have the opportunity and most of us take advantage of it. So I completely disagree with that business owner saying he should be able to force people to work more. Give them the opportunity and give them the financial reason to work more and let those who choose to work more do so.

  6. It will go down in history that bragging Trump and Tyrant Putin threw away Ukraine under the Bus! Western Europe must wake up quickly and unite to actively oppose them! Perhaps in this regard China might back the EU!

  7. You can easily see who has real world experience and a deep understanding of things, it is called working in a business environment. 99% of the worlds leaders have never had any training in business matters it is easy to see. The top of that list is the democratic leaders in America and Zelensky and most of Europe's leaders. The childlike words they use give this away, the "unpredictability of Trump" is a way of Zelensky saying he cannot see the logic in Trump's mind, Biden as well has absolutely no understanding of how the real world works. Yet common people of America tend to be smarter than our leaders(up until the recent election). Journalist's are the same even Palki here obviously no training except how to talk on TV. A business and world savvy person can see she has never had the interactions required of normal business relationships. That's what the so-called trump whisperer is there for. Although she is a woman Italy is not a DEI country and she will know how to talk to Trump she wasn't put in for her ethnicity or sex. We need more world leaders like this, like we have one in Argentinia, Poland and Hungary and of course China and India has these types of leaders. The leaders of these countries are not grown children like the British Prime Minister who is basically like Biden. I cannot help but laugh when people use such adjectives to describe Trump, he has the mind of an adult thank god despite your own inability to see that. Take it from the citizens of the world oh silly inclusionary obsessed leaders, business people tend to know how to manuever properly in the world, you mostly do not. Please quit trying so hard to fake it, we see you.

  10. Dear Palki Sharma,

I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. As a regular viewer of Firstpost, Vantage, and your other insightful programs, I deeply admire your balanced approach to global and regional issues. Your analysis often brings clarity to complex subjects, and for that, I am truly grateful.

I recently came across your statement regarding Nepal's political situation, where you mentioned the frequent changes in government due to shifting coalitions among the major parties and the occasional calls for the return of monarchy. While I agree with much of your assessment about the political challenges we face, I would like to respectfully share a personal perspective on the topic of monarchy.

As a proud citizen of an independent and sovereign Nepal, I believe democracy is the most valuable asset we have. Despite the hurdles and growing pains that come with any democratic system, it remains the best path forward for our nation. The youth of Nepal, while diverse in their opinions, largely cherish the ideals of democracy and the opportunities it provides for individual freedom, progress, and participation in nation-building.

While there are indeed some groups advocating for the return of monarchy, they do not represent the majority sentiment of Nepalese youth. Our collective aspiration is to strengthen our democratic institutions, ensure accountability, and work towards a more prosperous and just society.

I hope this note conveys my respect for your work and offers a small glimpse into the democratic spirit that many Nepalese hold dear. I kindly request that, in your future discussions, the nuanced perspectives of Nepal's youth be highlighted to reflect this broader democratic commitment.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to continuing to learn from your thoughtful commentary.

    Warm regards,

    Rabin

  11. There are several inaccuracies regarding the Kumbh Mela that need correction. I'll however focus solely on the nomenclature to keep this brief.

Firstly, the Ardh Kumbh is not held every 6 years; it takes place once every 12 years, occurring between two Purna Kumbhs. Therefore, just as Purna Kumbhs are spaced 12 years apart, Ardh Kumbhs follow the same pattern. The 6-year interval only signifies that the Ardh Kumbh occurs 6 years after a Purna Kumbh. Additionally, the Maha Kumbh is not held every 12 years, but once every 144 years, with the previous one taking place in 1881.

Given Palki's established reputation for covering international affairs on Gravitas and Vantage — often challenging Western narratives and highlighting issues from an Indian perspective — it’s surprising to see such fundamental errors regarding the Kumbh Mela. Her reporting generally reflects a deep understanding of Indian cultural and religious events, making these mistakes particularly noteworthy.

  12. Your selection of people commenting on L&T chairman is no way worth that. You need to give signal to young generation to take some lesson from experienced and proven CEOs of the renowned companies.

  13. hes the most intelligent and polished world leader. he should watchout for his own security services. when he stops wars the armaments industry will try to get rid of him. keep up the good work m/s p. n australia they dont poison anyone, they insert a ghost who make him think hes poisoned and artificially create a few symptoms. this tech is beyond human scope. stay blessed all.
