Modi is facing perhaps the most serious setback of his political career because for the first time, he entered an election and failed to secure a majority on his own, Siddharth Vardarajan, founding editor of The Wire news website has told Al Jazeera.
“I am talking about his record as chief minister and his record in national politics,” he said. Modi headed Gujarat for nearly 13 years before becoming the PM.
“The fact is that the BJP lost as many as 63 seats compared to its performance in 2019 and he is coming back in the form of a coalition with certain allies who are notoriously unstable, so I think it is a political and moral defeat for Modi.”
Vardarajan said Modi is not a politician used to “learning proper lessons” from such results, nor is the party a normal one because it is “completely beholden” to him.
“He will be looking to carry on as usual as though nothing has changed, but the fact is that the terrain has shifted in India and there is a strong and viable opposition and it has shown that it disagrees with many of his policies.”

  1. I am not an Indian, but i can see that he overestimated the popularity of himself and his party. He took people's vote for granted, for example, the farmers whom he neglected but yet expected their votes.

  2. Yes modi was trying to be a dictator but Al Jazeera lol seriously? Now a Goverment owned news channel where no elections are held is telling us about democracy?
I would rather beleive aaj tak than Al Jazeera

  3. Congress No 1 fraud party. They promised Rs 8500 per month to all the male voters and Rs 1,00,000 per year to all woman. Now the voters have lined up before the Congress party offices and they are getting kicks instead of freebies. Al Jazeera won't say all this. Fake channel giving fake news.

  4. A country like qatar 🐕doesn't have election's to elect their leader are commenting on poliyical&moral defeat is ironic😂 & entire opposition parties gets 233 while bjp alone gets 240😂 see the difference

  5. Journalism being a pillar of freedom & democracy is a lie. Everyone in news publishing & media houses is up with an agenda, biases and propoganda to sell narratives. Journalism & news thrives on people's misery. No wonder world has become a miserable place. Not to mention AJ is a mouthpiece of terrorism. I say eff you to AJ!

  6. Ha ha. Do you know the opposition coalition has 30 parties that have no morals at all. Please, you carry on crying on Israel without any criticism of Hamas. You talk about morals😂
