The leader of the main Islamist rebel group in Syria has met the former prime minister to co-ordinate the transfer of power.

Abu Mohammed al-Jolani said the country’s new government will pursue officials from President Assad’s regime.

He added that rewards will be offered for information about senior army and security officers involved in “war crimes”.

Meanwhile, banking and public transport in Damascus are expected to resume on Tuesday as work continues to build a transitional government.

  1. ‏‪5:47‬‏ The Golan was and still is Syrian territory occupied by Israel and the international community has not recognized that the Golan is Israeli territory It is Syrian territory on which settlements have been built

  2. Will the Syrian people count on extra dollars? Printed by the American government in the same quantity as it was printed for Ukraine? The Syrian leader who took office today must travel around Europe and the United States collecting coins in his turban! They will look like Libya!

  3. Bbc once again spouting propaganda for the Americans. This new terrorist in charge was the number 2 boss of isis and Al qaeda. And the bbc and our own government support him and just spunked £11 million. Could not make this up! Disgusting bbc.

  4. The removal of the Syrian authoritarian government left a power vacuum. What form of authority/governing body is going to fill this vacuum? This remains to be seen, and we can only hope it will not be ISIS, which is the last thing our World needs! ISIS is hungry for power to reestablish itself again and continue its horrific agenda as it had demonstrated it in the recent decades.

  5. An investigation is needed. It may sound off topic but I chanced on this cool translator that does everything and more of what a translator should have, name is Immersive Translate and one thing that can really help is it’s new feature, which lets you create a custom AI expert for translating anything. Thank me later, it's gold.
