Indian students in the United States, including those from the elite Ivy League universities, are struggling to land jobs and even internships this summer amid a slowdown in job growth in the world’s largest economy. US-based author Soundarya Balasubramani spoke with NDTV’s Parmeshwar Bawa to discuss how Indians abroad are affected. She explains that “over-hiring” during the Covid pandemic and the extra steps required for work sponsorships lead to employers preferring locals over international students.

37 thoughts on “Why Indian Students In US Are Struggling To Get Jobs? US Based Author Explains”
  1. Will Indians give away their jobs to Bangladeshi or pakistani or american or german…the same media channels will start making it big..
America and other countries are doing the same..their citizens first..
    What's wrong

  2. Many indian students not all but many..has arrogance, no humbleness and some sort of crooked nature..which these days people can't stand..
So being humble plus no airy attitude may help

  3. Bcos they act entitled and high attitude 😂..enough indian indian indian..all nationalities are struggling across the world.
Indians not getting job in India itself, why do you expect they get in usa that too with Indian english accent😂😂😂. Indians not getting iit seat in India, Indians not getting proper pension in India,Indians not getting enough support from their state chief minsiters, Indians have lot of problem within India…and you expect as a foreigner when they go abroad, people will give red carpet welcome????

  4. International students ARE NOT entitled to jobs in foreign countries. Of course any country will give first priority to its own citizens before giving jobs to immigrants. Indians need to loose their entitled attitude and thinking they deserve a job just because they went abroad for an education. Nobody promised you a job abroad, you went there on your own will. Also many Indians are delusional and they think that they are so much better and smarter than Americans and that America "needs Indians". Its the opposite, Indians need American jobs. Thats why all universities are flooded with Indian international students, who then end up working low class restaurant jobs because companies don't want to hire them.

  5. It used to be a lucrative step earlier, but not now and the majority of the Indian students here are those who haven't been able to bag a campus recruitment job and are usually dull in their studies. Sending them of to the US gives bragging rights to the parents and the students the illusion that they have achieved something as well..

  6. I am from India, so let us face the fact that only some come for the good quality education that the US universities promise and provide. Most others seek a high-paying job and permanent life in the USA; there is nothing wrong with being open about this.

  7. They make up excuses so the youth of india dont stop taking education.

To stop this suffering tell the kids the truth. Teach them the point of life!

Only 2-3 indians out of 10 gets a job after education.

Only 4-6 european out of 10 gets a job.

Set yourself free and stop trying to live up to peoples expectations.

At the same time dont give up, you do that by not comitting same mistake as your parents, and dont have too many kids.

Less population, and less kids will lead to more oppertunities, and make it easier for the parents to inssure that their succesor succeed.

And succes dont only come from studying! No no… you also have to be prepared for the truth that is waiting for you one day.

You are too depended on someone to make your bed.

Grow up, and think out of the box.

    Every man is for himself!

in order for the next generation to not suffer as you do, the modern generation will have to endure alot

    Tik tak

  8. Wherever Indians go they hire their own people. They rob jobs from Canadians. Decent Canadians can't even get a job because these Indians only hire their own people

  9. We have so many opportunities in India why would someone go abroad … joining bajrangdal opens new horizons for our youngsters… stop spending so much time education as this is new india 😊😊😊😊

  10. The sad reality for India is that they are going to be in big trouble if they do not find a way to control the population growth.
EU-India free trade agreement cannot move forward because in India too many people work in agriculture.
In Germany 2% of population work in agriculture, in India 60%!
Germany is getting 7.1 ton wheat per hectare, India only 3.6 ton. A free trade EU-Germany will destroy many, many Indian jobs.

Agriculture is a problematic area as there is a huge variation in the number of people working in the farm sector in India and Germany, he told reporters, adding that it was 2% of the population in Germany compared to about 60% in India.

"So you can't compare the two agricultural systems. If you were to open the markets completely … the disruption to the Indian market will be tremendous," Habeck said.

  11. It's the same situation everywhere. Last year Canada admitted 1 million foreign students.
Where do you find jobs for them? They are too many!

  12. No matter if you are graduating from top rankings US universities or holds PhD/post graduation here in India, unemployment will forever remain the common denominator in coming years as India have beaten China in terms of total population and explosives growth of new age automation/AI ML.
