Skyrocketing inflation and nose-diving revenues from once strong sectors of industry have turned a bane for the Maldives under President Muizzu. Big debt repayment deadlines loom. Former Maldives Vice President Adlib Adeeb who spoke to WION puts the blame for Maldives’ troubles squarely on what he calls a Chinese debt trap.

  1. Do keep in mind Indian investment and Indian labours are in the Maldives, so if anything goes wrong it will affect these people, it is the Indian interest the Indian government will react. It is not this government who took the loan, it's the pro-indian government from 2018-2023. Even if the Indian government gives a financial assistance, still MALDIVES will have issues. I would not totally agree with the words what former vice president Adeeb said.wion news media need to talk with government officers. Not just one individuals

  2. Indian media should be matured enough to bring other side ( government) of the story aswell, always bringing the people
who would say what India pleases. this isnt journalism. U must do a better job in covering Maldives

  3. While US and Russia fight with each other, many small countries benefited. Likewise, the beggars in southasia take advantage of India and China's fight.

  4. I love watching this for now. No wonder he's visiting at this time around. India has been n will help. Despite your country not showing any kind of loyalty. Or say have gratitude for all these yrs help. You still have never ending needs fom India n never give back anything…the least we expect is having safety in our Indian waters, which also u put us at risk.
    We won't forget that.

  5. Former Maldives Vice President Adlib Adeeb was a corrupted criminal who has pleated guilty on all the accounts charged to him, use him criticize current democratic elected government? how desperate are you??

  6. India neighbors takes advantage of Indias goodness , this we must remember. They will easily stab India in the back without thinking of all the help that India has done to them.

  7. People selected the government who said …..INDIA OUT campaign

Now, coming to India without shame for self benifits

Taken several years to take action against those who made derogatory statements on us( INDIAN) and our prime minister…….

Go to China and your turkey friend where you brought army equipment for swap

    Dint you have any sense

  8. This accounts for an overall debt of US$ 8.2 billion. Over US$ 4.8 billion of these loans are domestic, and US$ 3.4 billion is external. These domestic borrowings from commercial banks, financial corporations, and central banks are in the form of treasury bills and bonds at high interest rates and low repayment time.Aug 7, 2024
for the external loans, $1.37 billion from China, $1.4-$1.5 billion from India
