Investigators say five people were killed, including a nine-year-old girl, in an attack in Germany when a car rammed into a crowd at a Christmas market. More than 200 others were injured, 40 of whom are in critical condition. And more is being revealed about the man police have arrested — but there are still questions about what might have motivated the apparent attack. Bianca Facchinei has the details.
Plus, the question gripping Ottawa is whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will stay on as leader? The stunning resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland on Monday sent shockwaves through Canada. Now, all opposition parties are calling for him to step down. So far, the prime minister has been quiet on his future. But if he does decide to bow out, who will take over and what will that process look like? David Akin takes a look.
And, the Alberta government has delivered its plan for a modernized coal mining policy, just in time for Christmas. It includes a ban on new, open-pit mines on the eastern slopes of the Rockies. However, the new rules won’t apply to a proposed coal mine a few hours south of Calgary, which has been a source of tension between the province and landowners. Sarah Offin explains.
Also, in Kenya, protests erupted earlier this month, as demonstrators demanded action against a rising tide of femicide, which is the killing of women and girls. Since September, more than 7,100 cases of sexual and gender-based violence against women have been reported, leading to the creation of a new specialized police unit. As Neetu Garcha reports, the crisis has also sparked conversations about systemic failures in women’s safety — not only in Kenya, but in Canada as well.

Apparently, from what I've read and seen, they have been encouraged by the election? of drumpf and the encouragement of a certain special someone.

Its not like Pierre is qualified either. All he was, was Harpers front guy when he was F'ing everything up. Need i remind u all, Harper gave us 65 years retirement, and sold off all Major industries run by GOV making taxation more expensive in Canada. It was like planned to "Break our Backs". Slavery in the 21st century seems a lot more sneaky.
My son was born in Germany
"Far right" say it again
Domestic abuse needs to be treated like alcohol interventions: the entire community or network confronts the abused + abuser and offer support and a safe place for escape and therapy. The justice system alone can't do anything but put an abuser behind bars after they have committed a heinous act.
Islamophobic?? What an outrageous, and moronic "diagnosis" based on the "supposed" rantings of a mad man's social media posts by people who don't appear to be physicians. Seriously though, that is a cruel, unhelpful thing to say to the German citizens just to keep the wolves at bay.
This is the fault of the German secret services and other services globally that do not cooperate with each other and exchange information, plus the German police, plus the authorities that public places with such a deployment should have large concrete barriers everywhere and the police should block access to cars in the area, only allowing emergency services in the opposite cases, so bad management and that they did not take into account the warning of other states.
The Liberals should learn from the Democrats in the USA. Have a traditional leadership race. No one likes her any better.
4:21..Liberals look ahead as PM ponders future…. I agree with Eddie Goldenberg. Time for Trudeau to step down and for the Liberal caucus to pick a new leader. Freeland would be a good choice especially dealing with Trump. Poilievre seems too sleazy and would bow to Trump. Thanks to Trudeau for having the courage to run, but every good leader knows when it's time to go.
Yet any belief related to slowing down immigration is automatically smeared as 'Far Right' politics. Well maybe it's time for these politics to come into play in Germany, and here in Canada as well.
