    Global National: Dec 22, 2024 | Ontario Liberal MPs reach “clear consensus” for Trudeau to resign


    Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has survived a week of political chaos that saw Chrystia Freeland resign from his cabinet, and all main opposition parties now vowing to topple his government. But the pressure on Trudeau to resign continues to build — this time from Ontario’s Liberal MPs, who make up 60 per cent of the Liberal caucus. In a teleconference yesterday, they reached what’s being described as a “clear consensus” that Trudeau must go. David Akin has more.

    Plus, the suspect in the deadly attack on a German Christmas market Friday has now been charged. The 50-year-old psychologist is facing five counts of murder and multiple counts of attempted murder. More than 200 people were injured in the attack, dozens seriously. Mike Armstrong has more on the aftermath and the investigation.

    With only a month to go before U.S. president-elect Donald Trump officially reclaims the White House, Trump’s team is already preparing to roll back a number of policies from the Biden administration. In turn, Trump is expected to sign a flurry of executive orders in his first week in office, to make good on his campaign promises — on everything from energy to migration. Reggie Cecchini reports.

    And finally, there are new concerns being raised about the protection of endangered caribou herds in southeastern B.C. Southern mountain caribou are threatened, and the province has encouraged wolf hunting and habitat protection to conserve their numbers. But as Paul Johnson reports, environmentalists say logging is happening in the forests that caribou depend on to survive.
