Global National: Dec. 27, 2024 | Joly, LeBlanc head to Florida to meet Trump aides

It was a short-lived winter break for two of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s top cabinet ministers. Dominic LeBlanc and Mélanie Joly have travelled south to pitch Canada’s border plan to U.S. president-elect Donald Trump’s transition team. It marks the second time officials have made the journey since Trump’s victory in November, as a 25 per cent tariff threat looms ahead of his inauguration next month. Mackenzie Gray reports.

Ipsos polling done exclusively for Global News shows the majority of Canadians now want an early election with a trip to the federal ballot box happening in 2025. Inflation, healthcare and housing rank among the top of the list. Anne Gaviola has more on what issues and priorities are seen as most urgent.

The new year will bring a new president for the U.S., one who is making big promises of undoing the past. Trump says he will pardon the hundreds of people who stormed the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021 to try and overturn the election he says he lost. Jackson Proskow reports.
