More importantly, it's not the money but the kind of experience which you get working with the government. Having been working as a consultant myself, I can say that apart from good pay, you get amazing experience in top tier projects which take you to another level in making networks, gaining experience of remotest corners of this beautiful country and most importantly putting your share in the social transformation of India.
