India’s military tested its first hypersonic missile, describing it as a historic step forward. It came days after China had showcased a new stealth fighter and attack drones at an airshow. Hypersonic missiles are the new cutting-edge in long-range military attack weaponry: they fly lower than ballistic missiles, meaning they can evade radar detection for much longer; they travel much faster, reducing the time between launch and impact; and they can switch targets in midair. India joins a short list of world powers who wield this technology.
