May be there are instigators abroad who have money and power to start a vigorous negative campaign against everything that might signal India's global presence. But the real culprit is the current shape of the domestic politics of India. With Narendra Modi and the NDA in the power for the third term in succession, some of the opposition parties having international reach have grown so frustrated and thereby desperate that they may go to any length to discredit the present ruling dispensation ( especially Modi)–no matter if such ill-conceived moves could bring the country (and in some cases the countrymen at large) to utter disrepute. These may not be deliberate actions on their part always; but India's international standing are damaged beyond repair for days to come anyway.
