The Nordic nations are teasing a new initiative of inspecting ships leaving Russia’s St. Petersburg port for insurance and environmental compliance. This may seem insignificant, but it could disrupt shipping on a global scale.

  1. Curious to know what you think China's death throes would look like if it indeed suffered a famine/collapse on a month's long scale. Would they deploy their armies and try to acquire whatever they need to survive, or would the CCP crack down on their population to try and maintain power over what would be left after said collapse?

  2. Countries: "we could let global trade collapse and ruin ourselves, OR ignore that Sweden captured a ship for inspection"
What do you think people are going to do?
As if countries were going to let mere legality or precedent simply unravel their entire economies. If an inspection happens everyone will just look the other way and keep making money.

  3. I remember those emerald lakes. I went there as part of my geography class all the way back in 2006. Those lakes are super blue and beautiful, but ACIDIC!!! Even back then, I remember the Chinese immigrants washing their faces with it. Lol

  4. I cannot see how we could get to a virtually no bulk shipping, certainly not within several years. Prices would skyrocket, sure, and there will be shortages as a number of ships and crews likely wouldn't be able or willing to sail through some areas, but it wouldn't crumble in a matter of days, imo.

  5. Jesus Revelation "The Great ppp corporate harlot who supplies the world on many oceans and rides the Chinese dragon."

The north west passage is open because of the earth's increasing AXIAL TILT magnetic north not you or CO2.

These are just the birthing pains of this the millennium of climate change END TIMES due to the mystery of the 7 star crossings Jesus held in his hand.

    Repent believe to be saved.

  6. Things will just go back to the way things were done before, a more regional and mercantile system: countries that have the ability will reconstitute their merchant marines and they will engage their navies to protect the cargo. This will certainly increase the costs of shipping, but that's the way things go. There will still be intercontinental transoceanic transport, it will just be more expensive.

  7. So ships leaving Russia's St. Petersburg port could be inspected for insurance and environmental compliance by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the company that helped build the Nord Stream pipelines and that provided classification services for Vladimir Putin’s personal megayacht, the Scheherazade? God help us all 🙄

  8. You really, really like the sound of your own voice, don't you? Why do you keep voicing opinions on things you have nothing to do with? You make money on the ignorant.

  9. One thing to remember, when listening to this, is that Mr Zeihan here wrote a book 2 years ago predicting the end of globalization and international trade and basically life as we know it. Therefore it is in his interest to preach that the incident at The Gulf of Finland (together with the other events mentioned) will somehow start a domino effect ending in situation, where each country needs to secure it’s civilian ships with its navy. However, there are no signs of anything like this happening. One ship sank, because it was ill-equipped to handle the weather conditions, another one was stopped by the authorities, because it engaged itself in an act of terror. There are about 100 000 ships sailing the seas at any given time, so what happens two ships is not sign of any trend, it’s a rounding error. Also unlike Mr Geopolitics is explaining here, while the most recent international agreements concerning international sea traffic were agreed on after the WW2, parts of the maritime law – and also international trade – have a history extending all the way to the Antiquity.

  10. As there is no route from the Baltic sea that does not pass the territorial waters, not just economic waters, of Finland/Estonia/Sweden/Denmark makes it possible to require things such as insurance and such on vessels.

Detaining / confiscating ships that damage infrastructure in their economic zone or break local laws in territorial waters does not impact freedom of navigation.

It's more or less the same as what Turkey does in Istanbul when they don't allow some ships to pass to/from the Black Sea.

  11. Greetings from Finland (Nordic, not quite Scandinavian nor Baltic)!
No one is to blame, except Russia and other . The comfort flagged rusty tankers are a threat in so many aspects to all seas, not only the Gulf of Finland or the Baltic Sea.
We flag for international conventions and democracy!
Warm hugs from former clerk of Lloyd's Register of Shipping, Helsinki Office…❤️

  12. I would like to see how America builds anything without China. Where would all the machines that were placed in this USA production centers be manufactured? Who would service them? Where spare parts would came from? Without input from abroad there is no US manufacturing. If shipping stop, us is in deep shit.

  13. Regardless of these diplomatic and legal hurdles, Globalization has an absolute use-by date. In maybe forty years, we are going to run out of oil to duel these mega-container ships.

  14. More bullshit! Thank you, Captain zero for putting your sweeping prophecy in the title of the video so that we all know that it is complete bullshit and don’t have to watch it.
