Rishabh Pant loves his fans | Indian cricket team | IPL

Travis Head didn’t trouble the scorers much with the bat – he registered scores of 0 and 1 – and yet left a telling impact on the outcome of the fourth Test against India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The left-hander batter, who has been one of India’s biggest headaches in the last couple of years, was finally silenced by Jasprit Bumrah. The World’s No.1 bowler got him in both innings of the Boxing Day Test but Head dented India with the ball. The handy off-spinner got the all-important wicket of Rishabh Pant just after Tea on Day 5, triggering a dramatic collapse in which India lost 7 wickets in just over an hour to lose the Test match.
It was a half-tracker from Head that India’s talented keeper-batter Pant hit it straight to the deep mid-wicket fielder. The unexpectedness of the wicket was such that Head celebrated in a never-before-seen manner. He created a hole with his left hand and inserted his right index finger in it multiple times. Needless to say, the celebration raised eyebrows.
Former India cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu was left fuming. He called Head’s celebration “obnoxious” and the “worst possible example.” The former India opener-turned-politician said it was an insult to 1.5 billion Indians and called for “stringent punishment” so that such an act would not be repeated on the cricket field.
“Stupid, stupid, stupid”, is what Sunil Gavaskar had famously said on air, when Rishabh Pant tried to execute a shot while taking a fall, and eventually getting dismissed after edging it, in Melbourne first innings. Then in the second innings, when India was to save the Test match, he played a rash shot off Nathan Lyon, to be caught by Mitch Marsh at deep long long, triggering a collapse for India.
So, as per rumours, he is all but out for the Sydney Test. There is no denying that he was irresponsible in this match and others, but then do we really have replacements for a player, who can really change the course of the match. Well, the answer can be a tricky yes and no. There is a certain Dhruv Jurel in the team, who is waiting in the wings for his turn.
Rishabh pant was at the receiving end of viral rant by Sunil Gavaskar after the wicket threw his wicket on Day 3 of the 4th Test leaving India in a precarious situation. Pant did start well and got a few boundaries but then the urge to play the falling lap pull over long-leg brought about his dismissal. “Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! You’ve got two fielder there and you still go for that. You’ve missed the previous shot and look where you’ve been caught. You’ve caught at deep third man. That is throwing away your wicket. Not in the situation that India was. You have to understand the situation as well. You cannot say that is your natural game. I am sorry that is not your natural game. That is a stupid shot. That is letting your team down badly. He should not be going in that (Indian) dressing room, he should be going into the other dressing room,” Gavaskar said on ABC Sport.
