  2. Hi A useful starter video, good work. Nuclear needed a mention. In N.Z. we're mainly hydro and geothermal, with wind contributing also.

    Solar electric panels are the least capital intensive, but the sun doesn't shine at night and some days are cloudy so solar panels will only ever connect with the power source (the sun) about 25% of each 24 hours. Depends where you are of course, but the max is 50% obviously.

    The wind can possibly blow all day and all night, so wind turbines can theoretically reach 100% effectiveness, but seldom do. The drawback is they have a much higher capital cost, and expensive maintenance.

    A further drawback to solar panels is that as climate change progresses and the seas evaporate more, we'll get a higher proportion of cloudy days, dropping S.P. efficiency down to 10-20% or even less. Wind turbines will increase efficiency in these conditions, as climate change causes higher wind-speeds. Cheers, P.R.
