In his New Year address, Vladimir Putin has told Russians that the country will move forward with confidence in 2025 and that he’s proud of his achievements.
The Russian president, who’s been in charge for 25 years, paid tribute to the soldiers fighting in the war in Ukraine, calling them true heroes.
But the war has had devastating consequences for Ukraine and for Russia, which is suffering heavy losses on the battlefield and economic pressure from sanctions.
After nearly three years of fighting, how do the people of Russia view what’s happening?
The BBC’s Russia Editor Steve Rosenberg went into the streets of Moscow to ask Russians about their hopes for 2025.

Putin had no choice but to invade Ukraine. Ukraine was moving away from Russian influence and towards NATO which would’ve meant NATO troops on it’s border and long range missiles capable of hitting Moscow in minutes likewise if Putin was weaponising the Rupublic of Ireland, Kier Starmer would have to launch a military operation to protect Northern Ireland. The first and foremost job of any leader is to protect its security. Also if you know anything about Russian history Russia has been invaded 5 times through Ukraine as the land is flat low lying and easy to send a land army over so obv Putin had to protect this strategic Achilles heel

This video looks like nothing more than an advertisement for how bad Russia is. Why were only old people asked questions in the video? Why were there no young people? Why were there more beautiful landscape clippings and empty chatter than real surveys? I spent time trying to find at least one blogger or channel that was directly interested in the people of the country, and not politics, without generalizing the entire country as a piece of a single whole, and I found nothing.
