It may "change our lives", but…those who have more (financial, influence) will mostly own it and control it. Those who have less, will form long queues to get a piece of it, most likely a trickle.

Trapped ion would be the one to progress us into the utopian quantum comouting utopia society. IonQ is working on trapped ion but before that's even close to possible they have to fix the scalability issue. They're working on photonic interconnects but if that doesn't pan out then that leaves only superconducting which is what d-wave is using for their quantum annealing so that's no help.

I have yet to see some kind of breakthrough results of quantum computers. So far seems like a bunch of hyped bs.
Just an FYI. Quantum computers do not calculate things in parrallel. They dont calculate at all. It is interference of the superposition where certain waveforms cancel themselves out and others strengthen.
The algorithm has alot to do with the system working as much as having qbits in superposition. If you threw a normal algorithm at the system it would not solve it.
