Pakistan’s PM Sharif Vows To “Crush Taliban” Amid Conflict With Afghanistan
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called for political and military unity to combat the security challenges emanating from the resurgence of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan. Tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan have escalated in recent weeks as Islamabad accuses Kabul of sheltering Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Pakistan’s December 24 airstrikes on suspected TTP targets in Afghanistan have drawn sharp criticism amid accusations of civilian casualties. Afghan Taliban retaliated with strikes on “multiple posts” of the Pakistani army along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, killing 16 soldiers. According to reports, the TTP has executed over 1,200 attacks on Pakistan in recent years as the security situation continues to grow turbulent in the country.
